Body Mass Index
Body Mass Index is an index that incorporates height and weight to estimate critical fat values at which the risk for disease increases.
Your BMI is calculated by dividing the weight in kilograms by the square of the height in meters. We have included the chart below that easily identifies your BMI.
A person with BMI in the 22 to 25 range has the lowest risk for chronic disease. A person is classified as overweight with a BMI between 25 and 30 and has a moderate risk for chronic disease. With a BMI above 30 an individual is classified as obese and has a high risk for chronic disease. According to the American Society of Bariatric Surgery a person with a BMI that exceeds 40 is morbidly obese which is a serious disease and should be treated as such.
